(More customer reviews)Got this for my son who is in culinary school as a novelty.Glad he won't have to use it to really time his meals or he would be in trouble.The design is cute though very small.The timer doesn't ding at the right time; gave a little click at 3 minutes and again at 2 minutes but never dinged at all when time was up.What good is that unless you are watching the timer?Not what the timer is for obviously - who wants to watch the food and the timer.He can put it on his novelty shelf though. Got the green one on sale so I'm not too miffed about it - if I had paid full price I probably would have made a fuss.

(More customer reviews)My last plastic scale accidentally broke when I dropped it.Needed a new scale and wanted something that looked really nice, but still did the job.The scale is easy to read and denotes grams, ounces and pounds.

I really wanted a stainless steel scale so that I could avoid rust.I've purchased a few items that look like stainless steel and aren't and when you put them in a bathroom or a kitchen where there is water, steam, or exposure to damp items the rust just ruins it.I threw out my last metal garbage can because the foot pedal rusted off.

For this price, you can't expect a heavy sheet of steel.The thickness is comparable to a standard pie tin if that helps.It's not like a heavy duty, commercial cookie sheet. Then again, it's not like the scale will see as much action as the bottom of a pie tin, so it serves its use and considering the price is [...] bucks, I can't complain too loudly.

I like that the bowl is removable and you can just throw it in the dishwasher.You can also "zero out" the scale and put other containers in lieu of the bowl it came with.

One of the cons is that the dimensions of this thing are off.I refer to the actual physical size of this thing.Product dimensions list this as 9.5 x 9 x 6 inches.Was that the scale base only?The scale base plus the bowl?Either way, I don't know how they got those dimensions.Anyhow, in the end, this thing was a little larger than I expected.From the bottom of the scale to the rim of the bowl on top, it measured 10.25" in height.The width of the base is 6-3/8".The depth of the base is 4 inches even and the scale readout extends out 1/4 of an inch in the front and the back.

The other con about this is that the face is plastic, not glass.I could not verify this anywhere before purchasing, but assumed it was plastic due to the price.It would have been nice if this thing did come with a glass face.

All in all, it's a very good-looking scale.A little larger than expected and the product specs should state it has a plastic face.

Salter Aquatronic Glass Kitchen Scale Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this scale recently to replace another salter aquatronic scale that just died (1003).The odd thing about this design is that the feet of the scale control the weight points which is fine for single use.However if you try to hit zero after already loading in some items on the scale (like if you want to weigh ingredient after ingredient in the same bowl)the scale measurement actually changes each time you hit the zero button.In essence it is very difficult to reset the zero feature since everytime you push the panel, the scale thinks that you are adding weight to it.The previous models had the scale parts internal to the unit so that pushing on the frame of the scale had no impact on the measurements.However with this unit, any light touch on any part of the scale causes the measurement to change.Not very useful if you plan on using any of the buttons on the front of the scale.

Overall if you plan on only ever measuring one item at a time and don't plan on using the zero function, then this unit is fine.Otherwise avoid this type of design where the feet of the unit is part of the internal measuring mechanisms.This one is going back for me so I give it a 2/5 since it does not do everything that is stated on the box.I do not think that this was a lemon unit, just a bad design.
