WARING PRO COOL TOUCH DEEP FRYER 1800 WATTS ELECTRONIC LCD TIMER Review

WARING PRO COOL TOUCH DEEP FRYER 1800 WATTS ELECTRONIC LCD TIMER
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned several deep fryers in the $80 to $100 price range, but had gone without a deep fryer for several years. I purchased my WPF100B at Costco for $30. The Amazon Marketplace price today is $89.99. I probably would not have been disappointed even if I paid $89.99. The design is very intelligent. The breakaway cord is very short for safety and it is easy to attach to the fryer without looking. The heating element is attached to the front panel and drops inside the oil container, so you cannot use solid oil (solid at room temp) such as shortening or lard. I use oil anyway, so that is not a disadvantage for me, and this feature makes it so easy to clean. The element must be cleaned by hand but the oil container is steel and can be cleaned in the dishwasher - along with the fryer lid. The lid even has a small window so that you can see the food cooking. The cool touch feature is so cool that I was able to pick up the fryer and move it while it was cooking. It even has small finger recesses on the bottom to improve your grip when moving it. The fryer basket is small for the relatively large amount of oil required - about 3 quarts. If you have the extra space you may want to consider a larger Waring Pro model so that you can cook larger portions. The manual recommends to filter the oil and refrigerate it after each use - up to 10 uses. The manual also recommends that you discard the filtered/refrigerated oil after 6 months.

Polder 890-90 Single Kitchen Timer Review

Polder 890-90 Single Kitchen Timer
Average Reviews:

Got this as a holiday gift for my mom to replace her aging Polder. It was defective right out of the package. The battery would not touch the contacts in the battery compartment.Tried other batteries but no joy.Put in a shim to fill the gap between the tip of the battery and the contact and it worked but then the door would not go back on.When it worked it showed me that it only counts down and stops. The old (>10 year) Polder would count down, ring, and start counting back up so that if you missed the alarm you would know how long ago it had rung. This unit does not have this simple and valuable feature. Also, this unit has flimbsy covers over the button holes that are used in the two timer version. One of these flimbsy covers fell off my brand new unit as it was removed from the package. The warranty is for one year but requires you to pay shipping to and from Poldner, which is about equal to the cost of a new unit.Polder customer service was worthless.I replaced it with a $6.18 Taylor time purchased from Target that worked as expected making it both better and less expensive. The Polder is a complete disapointment and waste of money.

Taylor 5828 Dual Event Timer Review

Taylor 5828 Dual Event Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What more can you want in a kitchen timer? It has two countdown timers, each of which can be set up to 23 hours and 59 minutes. The display is a good size--not too big, but big enough that the display is easy to read.It has an angled bottom, so it sits nicely on the counter. It also has a magnet on the back if you want to attach it to the range hood or the refrigerator. It's easy to set--press 'Hr' to set hours or 'Min' to set the minutes. If you have to go to a high number, hold the button down and the timer quickly advances. It has a switch on the back where you can have it display the time and date when you're not using it as a timer.About the only niggle I find with it is that clearing the timer is unintuitive--you have to press 'Hr' and 'Min' simultaneously to reset the timer.Other than that I find it completely intuitive and easy to use.It takes a single AAA battery to run the timer, and it's easy to replace.I am really happy with this timer, and it was cheap!A really great purchase.

Presto 04213 Electronic Digital Timer Review

Presto 04213 Electronic Digital Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first digital kitchen timer. I have used a mechanical timer made by Sunbeam but it broke after only a year or so of use. Compare to the mechanical timer, I like this far more.
It's made in China and the quality of the plastic and the built are better than you'd find in other products made in China, but not to the level of Japanese electronics or ipod. For me, it's very acceptable.
The dimension described in the product features, detail is wrong. It's not even the size of the package but close except the thickness. Actual dimensions are (17mm x 56mm x 67mm), and it's quite easily pocketable.
It has a magnet for keeping on the refrigerator door and paper clip that also function as a stand. When you open the clip half way, it opens wide enough for a paper or a card. When you open it all the way, small metal piece drops between the body and the clip to keep it open as a stand. When flip it upside down and open the clip all the way again, metal piece retract again. The clip also covers the battery compartment when it's closed. If anything gives you an impression that this is a cheaply made gadget, the battery cover will be it.
Operation is easy enough that you can skip the instruction. It has a minute button and a second button and the number only goes up, not down. Push both to clear the number. When you stop the alarm while beeping, it sets the same numbers you put in before. If you want to start new time, clear the display first then set the new time. It doesn't have on-off switch. I'm planning to use rechargeable battery, so this is not a problem for me.
The alarm makes 4 short beeps about every second and goes for about 30 seconds. It's loud enough in my pocket and that's the way I use it. Since it's small enough, there's no excuse leaving it in the kitchen.
This is a timer with simplest function for the cheapest price. If you need more functions, this is probably not a good choice. If you are used to mechanical timer, this will give you more than you need.

Highly recommended.

*update*(Jan-18-10)
I found that the timer won't work with rechargeable battery. It still uses the original battery came with it, so I'll post when it runs out. I use it several times every day.

Product Description:
Some purist cooks claim to have an instinctive inner timer, but most people need a little help remembering when to take the roast out or punch down the bread dough for its second rise. This electronic timer fulfills that basic function. With an easy-to-read LCD display that shows minutes and seconds, the unit counts down from any time up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds. There's also a stopwatch function that's useful in many ways, and not necessarily only in the kitchen. An alarm signals when the time is up, and the memory function stores the last countdown time for reuse. The timer's versatile clip can also become an easel stand, and it has a magnet, too--it's good to go wherever it's needed. The handy gadget operates on one AAA battery, and it can be carefully wiped clean with a slightly damp rag as needed. The timer measures 2-1/2 by 2-1/4 by 1/2 inches.

All Clad Stainless Steel Kitchen Digital Timer and Clock T225 Review

All Clad Stainless Steel Kitchen Digital Timer and Clock T225
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I found this product I assumed my problems with digital timers were a thing of the past.I have always considered All-Clad products to be "la crema".When I received the timer I loved the "heft" of it; seemed extremely well made and the probe was not as flimsy as many I've tried.Everything was fine for the first two months of use. Then I used it to insert into a 1" thick piece of fish as the recipe called for no more than a 135 degree doneness.I was broiling this piece of fish, with the rack at the highest level. All was well until suddenly the timer totally crashed and indicated the temp was "off the charts".Knowing this wasn't possible, I removed it and let the probe cool down.I assumed it was too close to the heating element.Alas, 3 days hence and the timer is dead.I guess the probe couldn't take the heat.Though I had other issues with Polder digitals over the years, I had never had THIS problem. So back to the drawing board in trying to find a long-lived digital temp. probe.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lux TT100 Talking Clock and Timer, White Review

Lux TT100 Talking Clock and Timer, White

I bought and use this item to time the flights of my radio controlled airplanes..While flying RC airplanes your full attention as well as both hands are occupied with the task at hand.. The timer lets me know how long I've been flying and how long I have to go before I land the plane..Its like a talking fuel gauge.. Even out in the open with lots of noise around I can still hear the timer in my shirt pocket clearly.
Works great for what I use it for.

Taylor Stainless Steel Timer Review

Taylor Stainless Steel Timer

This is one of the better kitchen timers I have used.

Likes - Large easily read LED display. Magnet actually works when you stick it on the fridge and doesn't fall off easily. Slim design is balanced and helps it stay stuck on the fridge. Fold out support for table top use. Gives short beep at 10 and 5 minute remaining time. Loud enough to hear from 3 rooms away. Timer counts up when set time expires.

Dislikes - Seconds do not count down. The only indication of the timer counting down is the blinking colon (:) Minute digit decreases after a full minute. Would like a Low and High volume switch for the beep. Sometimes I want a soft beep.
